World Record for Antoine Albeau – 53.49 knots (99.06 kph)
NEW WORLD RECORD: 53.49 KNOTS
Antoine Albeau goes further down in sailing legend
BRAVOOOOOOO Antoine !!!
This past week has been epic in its twists and turns and analytical work to arrive at this Sunday, December 1, of beautiful gliding.
Antoine made 3 runs at an average speed of over 53 knots over the official 500m distance in 40-45 knots of wind.
No one had ever achieved such a feat.
And above all, a new official World Record of 53.49 knots (WSSRC international ratification in progress).
9 years after his previous record of 53.27 set in 2015 on the same Lüderitz canal in Namibia.
The mythical 100 km/h mark is getting closer… with these 99.06 km/h set on December 1, 2024…
Here’s what Antoine wrote from Lüderitz on the day of his performance:
What a joy tonight to see my time and new Windsurfing World Speed Record validated after video verification. Beating my own 2015 world record, which had never been beaten, was something I had to work at this year, and with extreme motivation I’m finally succeeding!
53.49 knots or 99.07 km/h is the record to beat now !!!!!
To be continued for 100km/h…
The Zephir Project team has been involved in improving performance on “traditional” windsurfing equipment…
While we wait for our prototypes to reach our goals in the open sea?
For an ultra-high-speed world record, the “details” are no longer “details”
These are the new fruits of our technical understanding.
In particular, with our long-standing technical partners. These include Olivier Ponrouch and his UFO fins (Ultimate Fins Original), and the coating of the board with Nautix ‘s eco-responsible NX Speed finish .
Crazy, but just launched, this specific glide paint is already a world speed champion in windsurfing.
It’s the fruit of collaboration between the Zephir project and the Nautix design office. Nx Speed is a paint specially designed for gliding, acting like ski wax.
Note: this performance was achieved in “lighter” wind conditions than the previous record. So glide was the key factor.
A feat that puts Antoine a little further down in history.
Many thanks Matthieu Taburet, Maxime Delbury, David Mimeau and the whole team. Thank you for your confidence in us and for all the moments spent together brainstorming.
Let’s meet up again to talk about it on stage and, of course, on the water with Antoine and Pierre. Our conferences here
